SBL coaching carousel began as many familiar faces returned to the SBL coaching fraternity recently.
Wei Chen-ming, who coached Bank of Taiwan from 2003-2007 before being replaced by Lai Liang-chung, returned to his old team and replaced Lai as head coach.
BOT under Wei did enjoy a brief spotlight, when it gave defending champ Yulon a scare in an epic four-game first round playoff series in the 2005-06 season. However, the bank-backed team has been always one of the worst teams in the league.
The 2012 William Jones Cup invitational tournament will be held at the Miaoli Dome Gymnasium in Miaoli County, Taiwan from July 7-11 with six teams from five countries in participation.
The six teams include a pair of teams from host Taiwan -- Cathay Life and Chunghua Telecom as well as Japan NT, India NT, Malaysia NT and Chapman University, a US college team at Div. III.
Taiwan were drawn into Group B along with Iran, Qatar, Japan and a South Asia team in the FIBA Asia Cup, formerly known as the Stankovic Cup, in Tokyo, Japan, in September, FIBA Asia announced.

Hsu Chih-chao, head coach of the Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor (KKL) last season, will become Dacin Tiger’s head coach in the coming season, Dacin Tigers General Manager Wang Tsai-hsiang said.
Hsu, who spent most of his career with Dacin, will be returning to his old team and replace Chiu Ta-tsun, who left after the season to coach in China’s Jiangsu.
Dacin head coach Chiu Ta-tsun was reported to be coaching in China again and has resigned as the head coach of Taiwan national second team in this year’s WIlliams Jones Cup. Chiu was reportedly to be signing an one-year contract with Jiangsu, where he coached before.
Taiwan NT to play in friendlies in Japan
Local media reported that Taiwan NT has accepted an invitation from Japan, which will host the Asian Cup at Tokyo in September, in a friendly tournament which will be played at the same venue the Asian Cup is going to use.
Details of the tournament are not disclosed.
Taiwan NT opened its training camp 10 days earlier than it was planned for the friendlies. Head coach Hsu Chin-tse said it would be a great opportunity to warm up for the Asian Cup. However, Lin Chih-chieh and Tien Lei will sit out the tourney for various reasons and Tseng Wen-ting could also miss the tournament.
Former Chicago Bulls championship team trio of Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman and Horace Grant will be among a dozen of former NBA players to visit Taiwan next month for an exhibition game.
The NBA Legends Game will match up the NBA veterans and a team of Taiwanese players. The game will be played on July 21 at Kaohsiung Dome in the southern port city of Kaohsiung, Taiwan’s second largest city.

SBL team meeting convened by the CTBA today reach a consensus that the 2012-13 SBL regular season will tip off on Nov. 17 this year.
Among the important decisions made in the meeting include the acceptance of players of Taiwanese descent for the first time with each team is allowed to keep two such players who possess a ROC (Taiwan) passport.
The players with Taiwanese descent would not be counted as import players.
The top five star players, including Chen Hsin-an and Tien Lei, were included in the 30-man rosters of the 2012 Taiwan men’s national teams announced by the Chinese Taipei Basketball Association on May 23.
Hsu Chin-tse, who led Pure Youth to its first ever SBL title last month, would be the head coach of Taiwan’s national team while Chiu Da-tsun, coach of Dacin Tigers, would be the head coach of the national second team, which is also known as Kwang Hua team.
A total of 24 players were named by the CTBA to the preliminary roster for the 22nd FIBA Asia U18 Championship for Men in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Training camp for the tournament, which will be held from Aug. 17-26, opened on June 6 in Taipei with former Taiwan NT point guard Yen Hsin-shu, assistant on Taiwan’s U19 World Championship team last year, serving as the head coach.
